Version 0.9 has been published and it will monitor your style.css file for changes and update accordingly. It works best if you edit style.css from within the editor section of the admin control panel (changes are detected immediately). If you edit the style.css file manually, the plugin will detect the change on your next click anywhere in the admin control panel.

Thanks, Martin. I'm looking at a few other plugins as well (Smilies Themer Toolbar) and will be adding this click-to-insert feature for comments eventually, but I've got some more internal/structural things to correct first. I'll send you an e-mail when I finally get this added.

Hi Nick,

regarding clickable way to add smilies to comments take a look at WP Grins here:
http://alexking.org/projects/wordpress

The last update was in 2007 and for me it is not working with the newest version of WordPress.

Please let me know if you add this feature.

I'll think about this. WordPress doesn't provide a hook to detect when a theme's stylesheet changes. To facilitate this, the plugin would need to store the modification time of the theme's stylesheet file and then check the file on every page load to see if the modification time changed.

Another thing that might be great: The combined style sheet file should also be updated in cache when editing the theme's CSS file.

Version 0.7 has been published to the WordPress.org SVN.

Anniken, it looks like the stylesheet code didn't come through in the last message. WordPress must have stripped it out. Anyway, please install the update and then enable the option for compatibility mode. Does the compatibility mode solve the problem?

Smilies will show up in the comments if people type the correct code. For example, if I type ":)" it will show up as :)

Unlike posts, there is no clickable way to add smilies to comments yet. Thanks for this suggestion. I will think about how this feature can be added.

False announcement...

After changing that in my header.php I cant seem to find the real stylesheet with my firefox web developer plugin anymore. And several of the pictures that I use in my theme (icons and stuff) are gone, since the site can't get the codes... But weirdly enough it looks the same uncept the pictures and some other minor styling.

The stylesheet link I use in my header.php file looks like this:

and the second I apply the bloginfo() function the css starts to go nuts. I can't figure out how to get around it. :/

I'm gonna wait for your 0.7 update and hope that it works for me too when that one is out. :)

Okay, I see your blog isn't loading the Speedy Smilies stylesheet. When I look at the source code for your blog, the < link > tag that points to http://aussieglis.norblogg.net/wp-content/themes/aussieglis/style.css. Instead, it should point to http://aussieglis.norblogg.net/wp-content/plugins/speedy-smilies/style.php.

Basically, your blog isn't looking at my style.php file, so the necessary style information for Speedy Smilies isn't loading. I think this is a problem with that specific theme. Can you look at the <b>header.php</b> file for your chosen theme? Near the top, the line of code that loads the stylesheet should include a call to the bloginfo() function, like this:
<pre>< link rel="stylesheet" href="< ?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ? >" type="text/css" media="screen" / ></pre>

I suspect that the theme you're using isn't calling the bloginfo() function, which is why the style information for Speedy Smilies plugin isn't being loaded properly.

I am planning to add a workaround for incompatible plugins and themes in the 0.7 version of the plugin. If the problem is what I suspect, then version 0.7 will offer a workaround option that should be able to fix this.
