Of course, you're not getting Chrome's performance improvements by doing this, but it's at least a start. Shown above is my Firefox 3 looking like the Chrome browser [running in Linux with the chrome-like GTK theme and the MurrinaChrome Emerald theme]. Here is what I did to achieve this:
- Change the appearance.
- Install the Chromifox theme for the overall look and feel
- Install the LocationBar² extension for address bar highlighting
- Install the Download Statusbar extension for Chrome-like download tracking
- Install the Chromifox theme for the overall look and feel
- Unify the address and search bars.
- Get rid of the search box. From the View menu, select Toolbars > Customize and drag the Search box off the toolbar so it disappears.
- Change the address bar search behavior to show results: In about:config, change the value of keyword.URL to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&q=
- To restore the functionality of your search plugins, create Smart Keywords for your favorite websites.
- Get rid of the search box. From the View menu, select Toolbars > Customize and drag the Search box off the toolbar so it disappears.
- Speed up cross-site browsing by installing the DNS Prefetch extension.
